Wood Doors — Nothing matches the warmth and character of real wood. Cedar, redwood, and mahogany are the most common species for California installations. Wood doors require refinishing every 2-3 years in California sun, but the look is unmatched. Custom wood doors start around $2,500 installed.

Composite / Faux Wood — Get 80% of the wood look with 20% of the maintenance. Clopay’s Canyon Ridge collection uses a steel frame with composite overlays that genuinely look like wood. They resist warping, cracking, and UV damage far better than real wood. A premium option at $2,000-$3,500 installed, but the long-term maintenance savings are real.

Insulation Options

Garage door insulation is measured in R-value. Non-insulated doors have an R-value near zero. Polystyrene-insulated doors range from R-6 to R-9. Polyurethane-insulated doors range from R-12 to R-18. If your garage shares a wall with living space, or if you use your garage as a workshop, insulation makes a measurable difference in comfort and energy bills — especially in California’s extreme heat zones like the Inland Empire and Central Valley.

The Installation Process

A standard two-car door installation takes 4-6 hours. We remove and dispose of the old door, inspect the framing and hardware, install the new door sections, set up torsion springs, install the opener (if included), program remotes, and calibrate everything. We test the safety reverse, adjust travel limits, and walk you through the operation before we leave.
