Roller, Cable & Hardware Replacement

Rollers, cables, hinges, and brackets are the unsung heroes of your garage door system. They don’t get the attention that springs and openers get, but when they fail, the consequences can be just as disruptive — and sometimes dangerous. A snapped cable can send a door crashing down. A broken roller can derail the entire door off its tracks. Worn hinges create binding and uneven movement that accelerates wear on everything else.

Roller Replacement

Steel Rollers are the standard that comes with most garage doors. They’re durable but loud — metal rolling on metal creates the rumbling noise you hear every time the door moves. Steel rollers last 5-7 years with regular lubrication, less without. They’re the budget option at $5-$8 per roller installed.

Nylon Rollers are the upgrade we recommend to almost every customer. They’re dramatically quieter than steel, don’t require lubrication (the bearing is sealed), and last 10-15 years. If anyone in your house sleeps within earshot of the garage, nylon rollers change your life. Full set replacement: $100-$175 installed.

Signs you need new rollers: visible chips or cracks in nylon rollers, wobbling steel rollers, the door shaking or vibrating during travel, and increasing noise over time.

Cable Replacement

Garage door cables connect the bottom brackets to the spring system drums. They’re under constant tension and eventually fray and weaken. A frayed cable is a ticking time bomb — when it snaps, the door drops on that side, potentially going off-track and causing panel damage.

We replace cables in pairs (both sides) because they wear at the same rate. Cable replacement runs $100-$175 per pair including adjustment. If you see any fraying, loose strands, or rust on your cables, don’t wait — this is a repair that only gets more expensive the longer you delay.

Hinge Replacement

Hinges connect the door panels to each other and hold the rollers. Over time, the pin holes elongate (become egg-shaped instead of round), causing the door to sag, bind, or rattle. Hinge replacement is straightforward and inexpensive — $5-$10 per hinge installed, and most doors have 10-14 hinges.

Bottom Bracket and Fixture Replacement

Bottom brackets anchor the cables to the door. They’re under enormous tension and should NEVER be removed or adjusted by anyone other than a professional. A bottom bracket under tension can cause severe injury if mishandled. We replace damaged brackets safely as part of our cable and hardware service.

Track Repair and Replacement

Bent, dented, or misaligned tracks cause the door to bind, jump off track, or operate unevenly. Minor bends can be straightened in place. Severe damage or misalignment requires track replacement. Track repair: $125-$250 per track.
